In partnership with the East Midlands STEM Enrichment Partnership the BMFA outreach team visited the Willoughby Academy in Bourne, South Lincolnshire. Willoughby is a a specialist Academy, for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with a diverse range of highly complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

After a short presentation and videos on model flying and how aeroplanes fly the pupils split in to a number of groups to take part in a range of fun and educational activities as follows

  • Building, trimming and flying BMFA Aerojets.
  • Building trimming and flying  'Hoop Gliders'
  • Building and launching stomp rockets
  • Radio controlled Aeroplane Simulator flying

Reports from Willoughby are that the pupils went home buzzing with excitement and have continued to chat about what they have learnt and experienced.

The BMFA Outreach team had a very enjoyable day, the pupils all fully engaged with the activities and were a pleasure to work with and they are a credit to Willoughby Academy and the staff. The BMFA team would like to thank Willoughby Academy for the very warm welcome and hospitality, East Midlands STEM Enrichment Partnership for their help but most importantly the pupils for their welcome and enthusiasm.
